FIVE STEP Platform For:

Dallas City Council District 5

A RECORD OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE

 

As a lifetime resident of the City of Dallas I want the Best for my neighborhood and the City.  I know, from bus tours of Dallas as Chair of the Dallas City Plan Commission that Dist. 5 does not look like areas in the Northern sections of Dallas and much of it has to do with City services. I am a candidate for City Council District 5 for that reason. I have a plan to change the image of Pleasant Grove and Oak Cliff and make our area look and feel the same as all of Dallas should..

 

FIVE STEP PLATFORM:

 

1. CRIME/PUBLIC SAFETY:

a. Settle 1979 lawsuit so that City can restructure police pay scale and hire more officers.

b. Assign resources to area of greatest need.

c. Work with other Police department with in City limits of Dallas to cover low level crime, i.e.

school, hospital, constables and etc.

d. Community policing works build on program.

E. Support ongoing programs of Police Chief, fund all support equipment needed and use grant money for other programs.

F. Ensure firefighters receive adequate pay and equipment to perform job.

 

2. AFFORDABLE HOUSING:

a. Repair housing of older citizens on a by area system. Code enforcement recommend area and work with residents to apply for funds. Take application process to people.

b. Build low income housing using City funds and work thru DHA and other housing partners.

c. Develop housing opportunity for ex-offenders.

 

3.ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT / JOBS:

a. Add job development component to Economic Development department.

b. Seek un skilled labor position into District 5 and other parts of Southern sector.

I.e.: warehouse, trucking and etc.

c. DART should be a part of this program.

 

4. QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES :

a. Streets and side walks or of great need in District 5 use discretive fund to build when residents are on fixed income.

b. medium and other public space up keep need to be enforced.

c. Animal control should have police power to seize animals on demand. Work with SPCA to collect stray animals from area.

d. Litter control

e. Parks upkeep a priority

 

5. ACCESS:

I ,am retired Director of Dallas County Health and Human Service. I will be a full time Council member. District 5 needs a full time Council member to clean up and revitalize the area.

Residents will have full access to me as well as City service. When you need to report any activity you can call your Council person. It is hard for a full time Lawyer to also be a full time Council person. I will not miss Council meetings due to Court dates.

 

Summary:

I have been a volunteer for the City for over 25 years and know my way around City Hall and will work for the residents of District 5 as I have done in the past.
